Alden Dow was a child of the Dow Chemical founder, Herbert H. Dow. The House designed by Alden is a masterpiece of 20th century architecture.
The house is located in the beautiful Dow Garden. The quality and originality of the house, as well as Alden Dow's association with Frank Lloyd Wright, have earned both the house and Alden lasting international recognition.
Looking at the house, the surrounding pond and vegetation, a distinctive Zen flavor is obvious.
Northwood University opened as Northwood Institute in 1959 by Arthur E. Turner and R. Gary Stauffer. One hundred students enrolled at the new school, which was initially located in a 19th-century mansion in Alma, Michigan. Northwood Institute moved to Midland, Michigan, in 1961.
In 1993, the name was changed from Northwood Institute to Northwood University and the DeVos Graduate School of Management was created.
The teams of the Northwood University's Michigan campus are known as the Timberwolves.
